The Eric Morecambe Workbench
£2,950.00
Purchased earlier in the year from the estate sale of Joan Morecambe, wife of the late Eric Morecambe. As described by their children as Eric’s workbench, used for bits of oily and fishing tackle jobs. But clearly a huge 6 foot butchers block on a pine stand. After 2 months in our workshops addressing the woodworm, shaky pine stand, the damp loose joints, the total lack of finish, etc, etc. Under any other circumstances it would have gone straight to the tip. But it’s restored we are really glad that we went to the trouble. Sure you could use it as a butchers block( two sides available) but it really is a striking piece of furniture and ready to take it’s place in the history of the finest of British comedy. Put alongside his £27000 glasses it doesn’t seem to be expensive. The 6″ thick top separates from the base and is seriously heavy. The whole piece has been wax polished, with the top having undulating slopes and a great patina. A real statement and character piece.
