Late Victorian Oak Desk presented to Mr R Phillips – Director of Works by Buckingham Palace
£4,950.00
A superb quality late Victorian desk as used by Mr R Phillips – Clerk of Works to Buckingham Palace. Please note the letter from Mr Frank Dennis, congratulating Mr Phillips on his honour just conferred upon him dated 1921. The desk was probably commisioned for Mr Phillips on his commencement of the very responsible job of Clerk of Works to Buckingham Palace. Obviously by a highly regarded cabinet maker possibly Howard & Sons or Edwards and Roberts and still in it’s excellent original condition. With the exception of two replacement reproduction inkwells even the tooled leather is authentic to it’s marker. All the legs are sound with original castors. The drawers and cylinder are crossbanded in satinwood and ebony, with a profusion of boxwood stringing throughout. It comes to the market through Mr Phillips’s descendants with copies of a congratulatory letter and photograph of Mr Phillips. The condition is excellent.
