Victorian Oil on Canvas. ‘Cowper’

Recently re-lined and cleaned, now back to its best. The sitter is reputedly the 18th century poet William Cowper and it does bear a strong resemblance to earlier paintings of Cowper. Born with mental health problems, but a man of many skills and strong opinions. There is much
Of his history available on the internet. The painting is well executed ant very colourful. Fishing in the front room is rather an odd subject, but could be explained by his mental health issues. Dated at approximately 1850, no signature is evident. A fantastic conversation piece and all ready for the next 100+ years. SKU.G.200
