A late 19th century martingale. These were one of a number of different types of
decoration for dressing a horse , usually for a special occasion, The martingale would
have the prime spot on the chest of the horse. This particular one is unusual to have a full set of prancing horses in pressed brass. Quite rare for the original leather strap to survive.
